Beth Jacob Youth
At Beth Jacob, our youth are the center of our
community and our synagogue. In 1969, Rabbi David Stavsky
founded the East Central region of NCSY, the National Conference
on Synagogue Youth, and Beth Jacob has been a center of NCSY
ever since. Our teens and pre-teens go to numerous Shabbatons
throughout the Midwest as well as hosting their own Shabbos with
the Rabbi. Innovative programming such as Cola and Schmooze and
Torah Day, hands on involvement by Rabbi Weisz, and tremendous
self motivation by our youth, create an active, excellent youth
group. In 1996, 1997, and 2000, our chapter won the East Central
Regional Chapter of the Year award! At Beth Jacob, something is
always happening.
Cola and Schmooze
On Sukkot, the teens head over to the Rabbi's Sukkah for their
annual Sukkah party, complete with our local band, the Mazel Tov
orchestra. Between the eating, drinking (non-alchoholic only)
and dancing, the Rabbi entertains with Chassidic stories and
Divrei Torah.
Torah Day
At the end of each summer, Beth Jacob children of all ages
gather at a municipal park for a day of sports, learning and
barbecue. Torah day renews their commitment to Judaism and Torah
and reminds them that learning is not just something for the
school year.
Shabbos with the Rabbi
Every year, Beth Jacob hosts an NCSY Shabbaton for youth
throughout the Midwest. There is singing, dancing, learning and,
of course, lots of schmoozing with Rabbi Stavsky. Over the
years, Rabbi Stavsky brought numerous youth (and their
parents) closer to Judaism and Torah and sent many of these
children to Yeshivot in Israel and America.
Learning with the Rabbi
Every Wednesday night our teens meet at the synagogue for dinner
and learning with the Rabbi. The quality of dinner varies
depending on who's doing the cooking! The learning is always top
notch.
Teen Shabbat
Once a month our teens are in charge of every aspect of the
Shabbat services, from davening and laining to announcements and
a Dvar Torah. After davening, they sit down to a hot chulent
kiddush with Cantor Siegel.
Junior Congregation
For over thirty years, Hal Tanenbaum has prepared the young
children of our synagogue to daven. Junior congregation meets
every Shabbat (summers excepted). Participants receive a treat
after davening and special rewards for attendance and
participation at the end of the year.
